Purple Crumpet Spring Challenge - Day 29, April Fools
Today's challenge was something a bit twisted for April Fools day. I thought about turning my nails into creepy clowns but quickly thought better of it - I don't think I could stand it! Clowns are freaky, right? So I went for something easier, but it still looked great. I used two coats of Orly Androgenie (a birthday present from the fab Tracy, thank you love!), topped it with a coat of Nubar 2010 and then added some chain stickers in random lines across the nail.
And then I matterfied it, because mattefied flakies are too pretty and I couldn't resist.
I really liked this mani, I'd been wanting to use the chain stickers for ages as I won them in a giveaway a while ago, but couldn't think of the right mani for it. I'm glad I waited!

Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge - Inspired by Jewellery
Morning loves
This week's PCFC was to base your mani on your favourite item of jewellery. I don't think I have a favourite item, and the only thing I wear daily is my engagement ring (and since the Mr and I aren't getting along so well at the moment I wasn't basing it on that LOL) so I chose this pretty charm bracelet. It's only a cheap bit of tat, but it's pretty and I love the coral colours. To recreate it I used an old shimmery coral-orange by Collection 2000, followed by a coat of Nubar 2010. Once that was dry I added some random butterfly stamps with Barry M Gold Foil. I also rounded out my nails a little...what do you think?

31 day challenge day 2 - orange!
Day 2 on the 31 day challenge is orange nails. I didn't know what to do so I recreated a mani that I did before but didn't get to post about before it chipped beyond repair. I used 2 coats of Collection 2000 281 - one of their old polishes that sometimes comes up in a set on ebay. I got this in a set of three but it was this one I wanted as all my oranges were cremes and this is a shimmer. It's opaque in 2 coats - which is surprising because it looks sheer, but the brush I got is jacked up! I mean, seriously beyond repair screwed! Surprisingly thoough, it didn't give me any application issues! The wide splay of the bristles meant I could cover my nails in one stroke and the only issue I had was with getting the brush back in the bottle without splaying the bristles further. I then sponged Nubar 2010 on the tips for to make it prettyful.
I also swatched the rest of my orange/peach/coral polishes onto a nailwheel (don't worry I wont do this with every challenge!) Some of them look pinker than they are in person, but trust me they are orange!
No dupes I'm happy to report, and the ones that are close have different finishes - creme, shimmer etc. I don't think I need any more orange polish though, especially as I don't wear it very often. The first one I got was the first Maybelline on the wheel and it is my least favourite. The second to last Collection 2000 could have possibly gone on my pink wheel, but as it's peachy pink I'll let it slide. It is very sheer though, best for layering or grannies...

Manicures Mattefied
While you're reading this I will most probably be watching my best friend walk down the aisle! It should be me *sob*. Ahem, anyway...
If my manicure doesn't get completely destroyed after a day or so of wear (which is usually the case) I like switching it up a bit, usually by adding a topcoat. Matte topcoat is perfect for this because it dries mega fast and gives a really pretty finish, like softly frosted glass. Here are some of the manicures I've mattefied recently.
These are all manis I've posted, so you should be able to find them if you want, or ask if you want to know any of the polishes used :) Notice that the index finger is missing on most of them...guess which nail chips the most...
The matte TC is use is by Boots 17 Nail Xtras and I think it's priced around £3.99. There are lots of them on the market though, Rimmel do one, as well as E.L.F, and China Glaze, and I'm sure there are more.
One thing I've learned about matte TC's is that if your manicure has more than one colour you will need a good regular top coat before you use the matte one because it will smear otherwise. I learnt this when I mattefied my tiger print mani and it smeared even through a layer of Seche Vite. A TC is a good idea for durability anyway because the matte coat wont add any protection to your polish.
What do you do to make your manicures last longer? How quickly do you get bored? I must say my boredom threshold is veeery low these da...oh look, a kitty...

NOTD - Nubar 2010 french
Hi everyone,
I've sorted my laptop issues (for now) by plugging it into an external monitor. Kind of defeats the object of a laptop but it's better than nothing...
After the in your face bright polish I wore over the weekend yesterday I wanted something more subtle. I decided to go for a french mani, but used Nubar 2010 as the top coat for a bit of sparkle. I love how it turned out :)
I applied my basecoat (Sally Hansen Maximum Growth) and let it dry completely before using nail tip guides to mark off the tips (I got mine from ebeast for about £2 for 400, but most french manicure kits come with a few). Mine are very sticky and even though I put them on my trousers first to take off some of the stick, it still pulled my basecoat up on a couple of nails, so I did another coat of base before adding 2 coats of 2010.
I think it's a very understated look, and a perfect palate cleanser. I will definitely do this again sometime, using the various topcoats I've accumulated whenever I need a break from tons of colour!
I will, however, be going back to colour tonight as tomorrow is Pink Wednesday and I'm getting the fauxnads out again! By the way, does the word "fauxnad" make anyone else snigger a bit? No? Just me then....
