Picture Polish Illusionist - galaxy in a bottle!

I'm going to jump straight in today and say I can't do galaxy nails. The fact I've only actually tried them once, about three years ago is irrelevant. It was a fail and I shelved the idea and never tried again. Galaxy nails are so pretty, I "ah" every time I see one, traditional or pastel, and I think to myself I really should try that again someday. But in the back of my mind I still have the fail and a little niggle that says don't even go there. So I don't try. But now, along comes a polish that does it all for me, in one little bottle! Picture Polish Illusionist is a beautiful glittery multi-chrome polish with just the right amount of holo glittery flakies running through it to make it twinkle like the night sky. So. Beautiful. As multi-chrome polishes tend to be, this is sheer so I layered two coats over Sally Hansen Navy, Baby so you can see the full shift from pink to purple, blue and turquoise, and even a rusty red at the extreme end (which you can see in the underwater pic at the end). I combined it with a silver accent nail and some simple white stamping. But the Picture Polish is the real star of the show.

Stunning! I nabbed my bottle from the wonderful Sally Magpies when there was a sale, but even though it's back to full price now I suggest you grab it because it wont be in stock for long!

Maybe next time I wear it I will attempt some galaxy art over the top...or maybe I'll wimp out and just admire it instead!

Kiweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Today I have another glow in the dark beauty from Lacquerdaisical to share with you! Or more specifically, the Alexia of Lacquerdaisical's hubby, who is the mastermind behind Kiweeeeee! Kiweeeeee has a pale green jelly base which glows in the dark (squee!) with hex glitters in black white and yellow, just like a kiwi. Random fact about me, I am allergic to kiwis and even though I love them they make my tongue swell up and my throat close, which is not a good look! At least I can wear them on my nails ;) I wore two coats of Kiweeeeee over an opaque pale green cream, and stamped some kiwi-esque circles on my accent finger (I could have sworn I had a kiwi stamping plate, but I don't. I would have bet my first born on it...good job I didn't!) The formula is a little thick and can drag on the second coat, but just leave an extra minute between coats and you're good to go. It dries semi-matte, but nothing topcoat can't solve and the glitters are perfectly smooth and not at all thirsty.

Now the best bit! To 'charge' Kiweeeeee's glow in the dark pigment you just need some sunlight, but I used my LED lamp once it was dark out so I could get a good glowing photograph! Look at it glow! I love how it really makes the glitters pop!

Unicorns and lilac clouds

This weeks adventures in stamping theme was pastel, and because I've done a couple of pastel manicures this week I went for something a little bit different. I started with a base of Chubby Owl Polish Blitzed Unicornz II, a white crelly base with multi-coloured matte and shiny pastel glitter. It's a really complex polish, but there's pastel pink, lilac, mint, pale blue and gold bits in there, really pretty! I used to coats over white and then stamped swirly clouds in Sally Hansen Lively Lilac with Nailz Craze NC02. Then, because it just wasn't girly enough, I added some flatback pearls too, picking up some of the colours of the glitter.

I really liked this manicure, although girly is definitely not me! Using the pastel glitter instead of a solid pastel colour was a good choice, although now I think I'm all pastelled out for a while!

Drool Britannia!

I was feeling uninspired the other day looking through my untrieds (I really should destash...) and this pretty glitter jumped out at me. Lilypad Lacquer Drool Britannia was a limited edition polish made for British nail bloggers, organised by the lovely Sally from Sally Magpies. It was a while ago that we designed and got them, but I've never been sure on a base colour and so it's sat in the drawer waiting for it's day. I decided to pair it with a nice bright pink, Miami from the Boots Seventeen Supreme Shine range. The two went nicely together, the pink base meaning that none of the red, white and blue (and holo!) glitter got lost. I did actually stamp over this too, but it was quite late at night and I was a little bit tipsy... I finished my stamping and decided that before I would topcoat I wanted a sandwich (as you do when you're drunk), and once I had finished my sandwich I looked down and the stamping was more or less gone! It had just flaked off! That's never happened to me before, I quite often wait a while between stamp and topcoat. I swear I wasn't that drunk that I thought I stamped and didn't...

At least I got pictures before the mystery disappearing stamping because it pretty much ruined it! In future, I will either have my drunken midnight snack before I start or topcoat straight away!

Tri Polish Challenge Blue, Purple and Green #2 - Quirky randoms

Hi!

I'm running low on inspiration, so for today's TPC I just went for something random and glitter, which is always a winner! Who doesn't love dots, leopard and a Nailside cloud, teamed with my favourite UK indie? I used Barry M Key Lime Pie and Blueberry, and Color Club Wild At Heart, and accented with Quirk Peace is Free. I'm not 100% sure the colours go together, but I can roll with it. The Color Club is a holo and of course the sun turned shy, so the bottom two pics are with flash to try and show it.

I don't have another nail post planned until Thursday, but I'm hoping it's going to be awesome! See you then!

Silky smooth

Sorry for the unauthorised absence, I've been under the weather again and black dogs are creeping in. I seem to be in a nail funk, but I got my grubby paws on two of Barry M's new Silk polishes and had to get them straight on my paws. I started with two coats of Mist, the blue, and then sponged on Heather on the tips. The glitter accent is two coats of UK indie Chubby Owl polish Candy Rain over heather, which I won in a giveaway on Chubby Owl's Facebook page (thanks Jemma!) This is such a me glitter! I stamped bows with Gals Fairy plate GA36 in Barry M Gold foil. They're tiny images but I think I lined up the double stamping quite well for a change! I'm sorry the pictures aren't good but I promise it was really pretty.

Have you tried any of the Silks? I want them all now!

Holla for Holive!

Earlier this week I reviewed Lacquerdaisical's holo topcoat, Holla On Top, and today sees the turn of possibly the prettiest green polish I have ever seen! Holive is an pale olive green holo with added specks of glitter and oh my giddy aunt it made me swoon! Green isn't a colour I reach for often (apart from mint greens, one of my many many weaknesses...), not because I don't like it, but because it doesn't like me but this one even suited my skin tone. I wasn't sure how opaque it would be so I used two coats over OPI Stranger Tides except on my pinkie finger which was two coats alone. As you can see, I needn't have worried about opacity, but undies are an option if you don't want to use too much of the precious holo! I'd say this was paler than olive green, more like somewhere between mint and olive, with a leetle touch of lime maybe? Perhaps that's why I love it so much! Looooooook!

Palate cleanser of the week - Purple for B-Eat eating disorder awareness Smitten Polish Siren's Song

Hello!

A bit of a different post for this week's palate cleanser. Still an unadulterated swatch, but this time it's polish with a purpose! This week has been eating disorders week, and Beat is a UK charity providing helplines, online support and a network of UK-wide self-help groups to help adults and young people in the UK beat their eating disorders. My weight has always been something I've struggled with, and I can only think that if I'd had some help and support, somewhere to turn to when I was a teen I might not be in the place I am now. Anyway, purple is Beat's ribbon colour, and so a purple mani was born! Smitten Polish Siren's Song was a lovely gift from another blogger friend and although I painted my mum's nails with it once I've never worn it. It's a pretty purple/blue duochrome and I was perfectly happy to wear it alone!

I  love purple anyway, and this is a good-un! What's your favourite purple?

Palate Cleanser of the Week - Cult Nails Spontaneous

It's been a while since I did a PCotW but I finally joined the Cult and thought that this beauty deserved a post all of it's own! And when you see tomorrow's post you'll understand why I needed something like this on my nails. Let's just say it's bright! Anyway, onto the task in hand. Cult Nails Spontaneous is a muted purple cream with brighter purple microglitter, and it's purdy. This is such a me colour, I could wear it all day every day. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the formula - thin and draggy on the first coat, and it dried a little bumpy. I ended up with three coats and plenty of topcoat here. The microglitter just catches the light and makes it glow.

There are quite a few Cult Nails polishes I have my eye on, but they're quite hard to get hold of here without a hefty shipping cost and customs fee, so to make it worthwhile you have to make a bigger order. I just can't afford that (unless my children want to live on air pie and windy pudding...) so I'll just keep adding to the wishlist!

It's So Fluffy, I'm Gonna Die!!!

We're big Despicable Me fans in my house, and so I had to have Dollish Polish It's So Fluffy I'm Gonna Die for the name alone. Actually, I wasn't keen on the colour when I saw swatches so really I did just buy it for the name. That's bad, isn't it? Anyway, when it arrived I really did like it more than I thought I would, as it's much more complex than it seems. I had a bit of an indie fest for this manicure, pairing It's So Fluffy with Lacquerdaisical Unicorn Poo, and stamping a unicorn from Nailz Craze NC02. I actually think Unicorn Poo is the star of the show here - it's a glitter packed topper full of holo micro glitter, holo shards, bar glitter, hexes, stars and black hexes. I started with a base of OPI Pink Friday, then two coats of It's So Fluffy on pinkie and pointer, two coats of Unicorn Poo on ring finger and thumb, and stamped the unicorn on my middle finger with Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Speedy Sunburst.

It soooo pink! And if you haven't seen Despicable Me and don't get the unicorn/fluffy references, sort your self out and go and see it! Seriously, if grumpy Mr NN who usually only watches car shows and bloke things can stand watching it 20 thousand times since we got it on DVD at Christmas then you know it's good!
